Arnicare vs DerMend vs Reunoa: which bruise product fits your skin?

By Margaret Hale, Reunoa EditorialLast updated

The short answer

Arnicare Gel is a homeopathic arnica gel (1X HPUS 7%) for occasional knocks. DerMend is a rich cream combining arnica, vitamin K, ceramides, retinol and glycolic acid for aging skin that tolerates actives. Reunoa is a light serum with 15% arnica, vitamin K and ceramides, without retinoids or acids, made for daily use on thin skin. We make Reunoa — sources are linked so you can check.

Key takeaways

  • Arnicare: Arnica montana 1X HPUS 7% in an alcohol-containing gel [1].
  • DerMend: arnica (strength not stated), vitamin K1, five ceramides, retinol, glycolic acid [2].
  • Reunoa: 15% arnica, vitamin K, ceramides; no retinoids, acids or fragrance [4].
  • 20% arnica beat placebo in a bruise trial; homeopathic arnica didn't [5] [6].
  • Retinol and AHAs thicken aged skin but can irritate very thin skin [8] [9].

What the evidence says about the key differences

Arnica strength

20% arnica ointment helped laser-induced bruises fade faster than placebo in a rater-blinded RCT [5]; homeopathic arnica didn't beat placebo after eyelid surgery [6]. A stated, meaningful percentage is closer to what was tested.

Vitamin K

Vitamin K cream reduced bruise severity when applied after laser treatment [7]. DerMend and Reunoa include it; Arnicare doesn't.

Retinol and glycolic acid

Retinol increased procollagen in aged skin over 24 weeks [8], and AHAs increased skin thickness in a pilot study [9]. That's a real advantage for DerMend if your skin tolerates them — and a drawback if it stings, peels or reddens. The multi-ingredient approach is described in a review funded by DerMend's maker [10].

Which one fits you?

Choose…If you…
Arnicarewant an inexpensive gel for an occasional bump or sore muscle
DerMendhave senile purpura, your skin tolerates retinol and acids, and you like a rich cream
Reunoabruise often on thin skin, want a stated high-strength arnica with vitamin K and ceramides, and prefer no retinoids or acids

Where each falls short

Cost per month: how to compare fairly

Sticker prices mislead because tubes, jars and bottles differ in size and in how much you use. To compare:

  1. Note the size (ml or oz) and price.
  2. Estimate how much you use per day — twice daily on both forearms and hands typically uses more than a spot treatment.
  3. Divide to get cost per month.
  4. Check the return policy: can you return an opened product if it doesn't suit you?

A more expensive product used consistently often beats a cheap one used occasionally.

Texture and routine

Texture matters more than people expect. If a cream feels heavy or sticky, many people stop using it within weeks. Gels dry fast but can feel tight on dry skin. Serums absorb quickly under sleeves. Choose the one you'll actually apply twice a day.

Use with blood thinners

All three are topical products for unbroken skin and don't change how blood thinners work. On warfarin, ask your clinic about vitamin K-containing products (why).

Frequently asked questions

Which is better, Arnicare or DerMend?

They're built for different uses. Arnicare is a homeopathic arnica gel for occasional knocks; DerMend combines several actives for aging, bruise-prone skin that tolerates retinol.

Is DerMend or Reunoa better for senile purpura?

Both target bruise-prone aging skin with arnica, vitamin K and ceramides. DerMend adds retinol and glycolic acid; Reunoa states 15% arnica and avoids retinoids and acids. Choose by skin tolerance.

Does Arnicare have vitamin K?

No. Arnicare Gel's active ingredient is homeopathic arnica only.

Can I use these on blood thinners?

They're topical and don't affect how blood thinners work. Use on unbroken skin; ask about vitamin K if you take warfarin.
